I remember Dash and did try and find him for a number of years. I was a Police Officer looking after Einasleigh and Forsayth in the lower Gulf of Carpentaria, when Das and Lyall Capewell were ringing at Carpentaria Downs in the mid 1970’s Dash was a very good bloke as was Lyall, they were in their prime and were way above the normal ringers in that area. I saw Dash clean up two smarties in a game of cutthroat euchre at Mt Suprise Hotel in 1975-76. My good mate Max Whitaker (top buckjump rider in the gulf) from Forsayth called Dash the “Carnarvon Kid” but I don’t know the story behind it.

I am now 75 years old, retired at Malanda area on the Atherton Tablelands and do miss old Dash, he once told me that I was the only copper he knew who had principles

    Sadly missed

Dan Glendon (Ret. Detective Senior Sergeant Reg No 2088)
